It has been a while since I last updated. I have now been out of work for 9 months. Getting an interview is almost impossible, I have had only 5 so far, three of those were with agencies and two with actual employers.
The first employer interview went VERY badly. Was my first job interview for 15 years (since April 1999). I could not sleep the night before, I was sweating very badly at the interview (there was an actual puddle left on the table where I had been resting my hands and arms) but worst of all the link between mind and mouth went down – I could not answer a single question convincingly. I had the answers in my head but for some reason only garbage or nothing came out of my mouth and I started rambling. Two of the three interviewers lost interest very quickly and just sat there looking at their hands. I was very relieved when it was over and to get home and calm down.
The second interview was about 5 months later. It went a lot better, I was more relaxed and refreshed, I was no where near as nervous as before. The interview was handled very differently from the first. The first one was like an inquisition – 3 people sat behind table facing me and firing of questions, this one how ever was more in the lines of a discussion. The prospective employer took me to a local club for lunch and we talked about what his company was currently doing and what his future plans were. Everything went fine until he advised that he wanted me to start the very next day (the interview started at 3pm) – I advised him that I was very interested in the job but lived over 2hrs drive away (3.5 hours if I used public transport, so 4 to 7 hours traveling each day) and would need time to relocate to somewhere closer before I could start. Unfortunately he was not willing to give me the time so he hired the person he interviewed just before me.
So now your up to date. Back to looking for work – it was a novelty not having to work for the first 6 months or so but now it is boring and very frustrating.
